The cold has well and truly settled in, and I aint happy bout it! While the peninsula is renowned for it’s clam blue waters and white sands- best enjoyed in the sunshine, there are also many things to do and places to visit when it gets crisp. So, before we continue, I implore you to approach winter and the cool days to come with the following daily motto, being: "treat yo' self", because you deserve it in summer, winter, autumn AND spring. Lucky for us, we have fab local businesses like Nourished Skin and Beauty to help us do exactly that. I even did it last week thanks to Amy, the founder of Nourished Skin and Beauty (NSB).
Describing themselves as "Mt Eliza's hidden retreat", this beauty salon sits within a stunning space, being professionally landscaped featuring green ferns and trees, an oh so zen sitting area, an expansive decking, as well as floor to ceiling windows throughout the salon to bring all this outside goodness, inside. I was blessed with some winter sunshine when I attended last week and can confirm- it's a great place to be, to relax, to sip some tea and get pampered at. From tanning, to eye lash extensions, to LED light therapy, to body waxing, to eyebrow sculpting, to microdermabrasion, to hydrodermabrasion to advanced facial treatments, the ladies at NSB have got you sorted.
Now, what's microdermabrasion you ask? I asked Amy the same question, but now I am pretty up with all the beauty terminology - if I don't say so myself. A "micro" is is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal younger, healthier-looking skin. It is exactly what I needed after a lot of sun damage during my travels through the islands of Flores, Indonesia. Amy talked me through the whole process, told me exactly what to expect, and was TOTALLY right about the results. As winter can leave us all with battered, dry and sad skin, a micro is exactly what we all need to bring a little life to our faces. Male or female, young or old, this is a treatment I seriously couldn't recommend more. As someone who suffers from dry skin- I'm hooked! Check out how the treatment went down by seeing my Nourished Skin & Beauty instagram highlight!
My next treatment was a chemical peel. Sounds painful, right? Wrong! It left my skin literally glowing. So, here's how it goes: after Amy was left with a 'clean canvas' I guess you could call it, thanks to my micro, she applied a light peel to my skin, which contains exfoliating agents. These agents give you a little tingle as they destruct and then regenerate part of the epidermis and derma. Does that last sentence make you think I know what I'm talking about? Yeah, me too... haha. Thanks to Amy's education, I now know that chemical peels produce a controlled wound that results in the renewal of your skin, assisting in the reduction and disappearance of sun damage, pigmentation, acne lesions, fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial scars. Obviously the results obtained will depend on your skin type, the strength of peel used ect. ect. ... You know how it goes! Regardless, if looking after your skin is something you think about this peel is something you should do. If looking after your skin isn't something you think about- maybe it's time you do think about... just saying.
If you have any doubts, or the word 'chemical' makes your tummy jump, I can give you confident that for my first time, Amy only applied a beginner peel to my skin. It was absolutely fine. I have quite sensitive skin- I may even be allergic to sunscreen... random, I know- and the beginner peel was fine on my temperamental skin. The sensation I would say is a little tingle, and a flush of warmth. Once it's done (after about fifteen minutes), your skin just feels glowy, dewy, hydrated and FRESH. Who needs the sunshine when we have NSB's peel treatments! AND, even better- yep you read that correctly, the treatments at Nourished Skin & Beauty are affordable, allowing you to treat your skin like the queen- or king- it is, without breaking the bank. That's something we can all enjoy, hey!?
