Winter Warmers thanks to a GIRL and her BULL

June 12, 2019

Nestled within one of the peninsula's most renowned communities sits a buzzing restaurant that is ALWAYS busy with people, just like me last Wednesday, wining and dining and basking in what is one of the peninsula's most unique and down right fabulous restaurants. It's versatile and welcoming. If you're after a cheeky cocktail, some cheese with some friends, a coffee in the sunshine, a dinner that leaves your stomach bursting but your tastebuds wanting more, then this is the place for you. Vegetarians, Pescatarians, Vegans, people who LOVE food in all it's forms- you want it, they've got it. What is this heavenly place called you ask? Where is it? Well, ladies and gents, it comes to you in the form of The Girl and Bull Mount Eliza.

This little gem is always busy. Monday to Sunday I drive past this local and see so many of you beautiful people eating, drinking, laughing, making peninsula memories and enjoying yourselves. That in itself speaks volumes, so as can imagine, I was pretty damn excited to have a taste of their all new winter menu. Featuring a some of our all-time fave dishes, as well as fresh takes on your usual tapas, the menu all in all is an absolute winner for me. So, join me for dinner... we are in for a good night!

First, we are going to start with an artichoke soup, dusted with hazelnuts and topped with frothy, creamy goodness- just to get your stomach ready for what's in store. Warming you from the inside out, this little dish is a must on rainy, cold winter nights... just like this one!

Next, we are going to visit the ocean. Salmon Cornetto bites (yes, you read that correctly), and sardinian white anchovies on bruschetta with pickled cucumber and herbs- ummm...yum. This starter hit me right in the heart. I go crazy over seafood, and the Girl and Bull's twist on what are usually quite simple dishes, got me goooood. The salmon cornetto is simply one of my favourite things... ever. I can't even count the amount of people I have told about this god sent dish since Wednesday - a few more after this blog now, haha! To paint a picture for you, its salmon tarte in a tiny waffle cone with avocado and roe. Not only is it the tastiest thing ever, it's also very instagram worthy (because that matters, right?). I have never seen or tasted something so magical. Next time, I'm partnering this dream boat with it's match made in heaven: a dozen natural oysters and a glass of Kerri Greens Chardonnay. You heard it here first!

Onto the more substantial bites, we are going to now share the duck breast with kale, leg borek and smoked potato fondant... *drool*, and the pork cutlet with potato, morcilla and wilted greens. What I loved about these mains is that they are easy to share, and still have a vegetable component incorporated into them. I don't eat much meat, in honesty, so when these came out with some good ol' greens and drizzled in some seriously mouth-watering sauces, the chef had won me over. I now just need to attend again tp try the rest of them...

But it doesn't end there guys- you're dining with a girl that likes to eat- ha! Cue, the Morton bay bug with garlic butter and brandy. It tastes better than it sounds. It's one of my all-time faves. One of my forever loves. One I will remember, and return to see... (eat) again soon. Even my lover man, Daniel, enjoyed this one- and he isn't a seafood eater. So there you have it! Convinced yet?

For those who love sweets and those who love wine, the Girl and Bull hasn't forgotten you, don't you worry. Choose from soufflé to chocolate fondant (one of my FAVES!!!), to affogoto. For the wine connoisseur's of the peninsula, there are so many beautiful local wines on offer, including the likes of Foxeys Hangout and Kerri Greens. Ask for Mikaila and not only will she tell you the perfect wine to match your chosen dish, but she will have a laugh with you and greet you with her beautiful smile. No matter your occasion or what your stomach desires, it's all on offer at this versatile peninsula venue. The girl and bull is a true community, one I am so happy to be a part of and one I have no doubts you will love as much as me... so, what are you waiting for? Go book your date night!

Love always,

Steph x
